The partnership ‘Hand in hand Friends for Ghana’ came into existence about a year ago, when two friends - Mr. Bruno Panglisch and Mr. Bernward Robrecht - visited Ghana on the 18th day of October 2015.

Upon a fruitful interaction with the indigenes of Abofour, they discovered that the illiteracy rate was very high, especially among the youth in the town. For instance, there were so many children of School going age walking in the streets of Abofour aimlessly. This caused them to do their own investigations, after which they decided to do something to help educate the children, especially brilliant but needy who had the zeal to access education.

Consequently, these two friends invited Rev fr. Peter Kwasi Sarpong, the Chaplain and Parish Priest of St. Francis Xavier Catholic Church Abofour, to Germany on the 12thof June 2016, where they gave him the opportunity to meet a group who call themselves ‘Hand in Hand  Friends for Ghana’. These people are benevolent men and women, who have dedicated themselves to helping the poor but brilliant young people in Ghana, specifically in Abofour and its environs, to have access to formal education. The philosophy of these wonderful people is that education holds the key to the meaningful development and growth of any country. Hence, they saw the need to help develop the cognitive, effective and psycho-motor skills of brilliant but needy individuals in Ghana in general, with Abofour Township as a case study. The group members in turn solicited for funds from some friends of theirs, who also contributed generously to ensure the success of the project.

The main idea is that either individuals or groups can make an effort to sponsor any number of school going children based on their financial strength or wish. Again, the sponsor also has the chance to choose the level of education he or she wants to sponsor. For instance, we have children from kindergarten to primary six, from Junior High School to Senior High School and the Teacher Training College or the Nursing Training College.

To assist  needy but brilliant children in Abofour  and its environs to have access to, at least, basic education to enable them participate fully in both community and nation building through team work.

Like the mustard seed, the partnership has a small beginning but a very bright future. We therefore want to encourage one and all to be part of this honorable course of assisting the poor but brilliant children to have access to education in Ghana.
